This bridge was opened in 1935 and still carries scenic railroad traffic across the Cape Cod Canal. It is a lift bridge so that the entire bridge structure between the two uprights goes up and down. There are large counterweights that reduce the energy required to raise and lower the structure. Movable railroad bridges are challenging because the tracks must alight perfectly each time the bridge is lowered into place for a train to cross. The station and the bridge itself are adjacent to the Cape Cod Canal Trail parking lot.
